HOME / USE CASES / ESCAPE ROOMS
Let the puzzles run your escape room
In an escape room the players write the running order. WareCue is the audio, video and show-control layer that reacts to them — a solved puzzle, a pressed button or a sensor sends a trigger and the matching cue fires: the soundscape shifts, a video reveals across every screen, the lighting changes and a signal goes out to release the next lock. It runs the media and effects from one machine and pairs with the prop controller you already use — for rooms where the AV is the experience.
Free trial with every feature. Outputs are watermarked until you buy. No credit card.
The trigger advances the stack
Each beat of the room is a cue, waiting on standby. The moment the players earn it, the trigger comes in and WareCue fires that cue — every output at once, then the next beat arms itself. No operator has to catch the moment.
The cue waits on standby
The next beat is loaded: its sound, video, lighting state and the signal it will send are all lined up behind one cue.
A trigger comes in
A reed switch, an RFID tag, a button, a prop controller or the game master sends the trigger that belongs to this cue.
The room responds at once
The stinger plays, the screen reveals, the lighting changes and a signal goes out to release the next lock — all on the one cue.
The next beat arms
The stack moves on to the next puzzle’s cue, ready for the next trigger. Decimal cues let you add a beat without renumbering.
The whole room, written as cues
Each row is a beat of the story. The trigger is what the players do; the cue is what the room does back. Here the players have just solved the safe.
Linear or branching: a cue can wait on a trigger, or the game master can take any cue by hand.
The AV layer, alongside your automation
WareCue isn’t a prop-automation suite and doesn’t try to be. It takes the audio, video and show-control side of a room and works with the controller that switches your locks and props — so the media lands the way it should when the AV is what the room is selling.
Media and show control, not lock logic
WareCue runs the audio, video, lighting cues and show logic — the part where the room has to look and sound right. It plays to several screens at once and keeps picture and sound together, cue by cue.
Works with the controller you run
Keep the prop controller, relay board or automation system that switches your maglocks and props. It fires WareCue cues over OSC, HTTP, MIDI or TCP, and WareCue sends signals back out — the two sides stay in step.
For rooms where the AV carries the show
Best for immersive and high-production rooms — big reveals, projection, synced screens and a real soundscape — where a basic playlist player isn’t enough and the AV needs to land on the beat.
However the room talks to it
WareCue takes a trigger from the players, from the room’s hardware or from a prop controller already in the build — so it fits the room you have.
Sensors, tags and switches
A reed switch, an RFID or NFC tag, a magnetic contact or a GPIO input (through a bridge) fires the cue the instant a puzzle is solved.
The system you already run
If the room runs on a prop controller, it sends OSC, HTTP, MIDI, WebSocket or TCP to WareCue to fire a cue — WareCue takes the AV and effects side.
By hand, any time
Take any cue, drop a hint or fire an effect from the web remote or a Stream Deck — useful when a group needs a nudge or goes off-script.
Run the room from one screen
The game master starts the room, watches the stack move, and steps in when a group needs help — all from the web remote, no need to be at the machine.
One press per turnover
Start the room on GO; reset the whole stack to the top for the next group in one action, ready for the next booking.
On the players’ screen
A built-in countdown on an in-room screen, with add or remove time, a pause, and messages the game master can push live.
Text, audio or video
Send a clue to the players’ screen or speakers from the game-master position, without breaking the world of the room.
Sound, screens, lighting and locks
Up to 4 video and 4 audio outputs from one machine, plus outgoing signals — each one a line in the cue that the trigger fires.
Built for turnover after turnover
An attraction can’t wait on a cloud login or a crash between groups. WareCue runs on site, resets in a press, and stays up from open to close.
No cloud, no internet needed
Runs locally from the machine in the room, so a dropped connection never stops a game in progress.
A licence per room
Pay once or yearly per machine — not a monthly cloud fee. A backup machine is ready with a Master’s second activation.
Made for all-day running
The same playback engine built for live shows that can’t crash, resetting cleanly between every group.
A licence per room, not per booking
| LICENCE | PRICE | OUTPUTS | BEST FOR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Master | £249/yr or £29/mo | 4 video + 4 audio, triggers in and out, 2 activations | A full room with effects, sends and a backup |
| Node | £99/yr | Adds 4 video + 4 audio to a Master | Bigger or multi-zone rooms |
| Solo | £199 one-off | 1 video + 1 audio, inbound triggers | A single-screen room |
| Trial | Free | Full features, watermarked | Building and testing the room |
Inbound triggers come with every licence. Outgoing sends to lighting and locks, and the second (backup) activation, come with Master. See the full pricing page.
Questions from room builders and owners
Can a solved puzzle fire the audio, video and lighting together?
Yes. A trigger from a sensor, tag, button or prop controller fires one cue, and that cue plays the sound, reveals the video, changes the lighting and sends an outgoing signal — all at once.
Does WareCue open maglocks and drive props directly?
Not the hardware itself. WareCue sends the trigger — OSC, MIDI, HTTP, WebSocket or TCP — to the relay board or prop controller that switches the lock or prop. It runs the AV, lighting cues and show logic; your controller does the switching.
Can it take a trigger from the prop controller we already use?
If your controller can send OSC, HTTP, MIDI, a TCP string or a GPIO contact (through a bridge), it can fire WareCue cues. WareCue takes the media and effects side of a room built on hardware you already have.
Is there a game timer and hint system?
Yes. A built-in countdown runs on an in-room screen with add, remove, pause and messaging, and the game master can push text, audio or video hints from the web remote.
Can I reset the room between groups?
Yes. Reset the whole cue stack to the top in one action, so the room is ready for the next booking without touching the machine.
Does it need the internet, and does it run on Windows and Mac?
It runs offline from the machine on site, and it’s released on Windows and macOS together, so the room machine can be either.
Build the room, let the players run it
Download the free trial, lay the room out as a cue stack, wire each trigger to its cue, and run the timer and hints from the game-master screen. Licence the machine when you’re ready.
